This is going to be a level 30 scenario and due to the precise setting you can only be fighters and warlords and should really concentrate on combat utilizing shields (flavor of the setting since Roman Legions weren't known for running around dual-wielding or wielding great axes). I will want to see full level-up plans for characters so that you all make sure you don't go over the limit on your number of powers available due to replacing powers as you level up. This also ensures you don't break the retraining ability as you level to gain access to feats and the such that you should not have access to.

So, I'm planning on a dwarf ranger who dual wields warhammers. I was considering wielding a warhammer in one hand and a battleaxe in the other because LIEK IT WUD BE UBERKEWL but then I realized that no, that would suck because I wouldn't be able to apply the hammer feats to both of the weapons.

There's no love for the axe/hammer wielders, though. Most of the interesting magic weapon properties, as well as feats, are for blades of some sort. Oh sure there are a couple of good ones for hammers, like hammer rhythm, but consider how the dual-wielding ranger is called the two blade ranger.
Earth, it was the planet of our distant ancestors. Its precise location has long been lost to us though in truth none of us wish to seek it out. By all accounts it was a beautiful planet with vast polar ice caps that engulfed much of the northern continents though we left it a wasteland. Our ancestors were said to reside in vast plains around the equator.

It was in the vast terran valley that the Terran Empire arose with the ocean of Atlantis to its west and the land of Sumer Republic to the east. The Sumer Republic itself was bordered to the south by a vast ocean and to the north and east by the tallest mountains on the planet.

Both of the civilizations lived in peace not knowing the art of warfare for many generations. Their technologies were very simple though the Terrans had dedicated themselves to the pursuit of knowledge and technology. The Sumerians on the other hand had dedicated themselves to personal awareness and spirituality. They had found religion and had a codified set of ten basic laws to guide their lives.

As time went on and the Terrans uncovered more advanced technologies such as steam power and the creation of irrigation systems to divert waters for their agricultural industry, the Sumerians had a growing feeling that the Terrans had sold their souls. This led to resentments between the societies and the Sumerians sending out missionaries to the four corners of the world. Little would change for centuries.

In time the Terrans discovered flight and then space flight. All the while they maintained peaceful relations with the Sumerians who had slowly adopted technologies that made their lives easier. When our ancestors first arrived in space they realized that perhaps they could journey to the stars. This intrigued even the devoutly religious Sumerians who thought in their audacity that they could find their gods amongst the stars.

What they first discovered were two new nearby planets that were hospitable and ready for human settlement. The planet closer to the star was named Aprodi after the leader of its first settlement. This planet was covered with vast oceans and dotted with seemingly countless islands. Those who settled on Aprodi were of the Sumerian sects. They would establish it as a planet for romantic getways with its beautiful scenery.

The further planet was named Aris after its first colony's leader. The planet was covered in vast plains and towering mountains. The soils were prime lands for the growing of crops and had animals roaming it already. These animals were what we now call horses. They were exported to Earth and Aprodi to fund the initial settlements while the lands were tilled and prepared for crops.

As the years went by Earth was abandoned by those of the extreme viewpoints and the Terran Empire and Sumerian Republic eventually merged to become the Terran Republic which represented all of the peoples of Earth. It became a nation of tolerance and trade while those on Aris and Aprodi went on their own paths towards the future.

Things remained peaceful until the discovery of nuclear power. An extremist faction of Aprodi viewed this as the violation of the laws of nature. They viewed the creation of power through such means as attempting to create something from nothing which they strongly felt was solely the responsibility of their gods. However still not liking violence the faction decided to simply cause the nuclear power plant to fail.

Their plan succeeded to an extreme that upset all living on each of the three populated planets. The resulting explosion and radioactive fallout killed millions. The Aris people feared that the Aprodans were planning more attacks on other nuclear power plants and began the weaponization of the new nuclear technology. Thus ended the first era of humanity, on the verge of annihilation.

Thanks for bearing with me throughout this campaign. I know for a while there it seemed to have no direction and rightfully so. I figure I'll now let you know at least a few of the possible endings that I had planned for this once I determined I wouldn't likely be returning to this setting for quite a while.

#1 - Group returns to the big chamber, slaughtering all of the tieflings that dwell within. Once the tielfing bearing the gem returned the group promptly killed him off and buried the gem as deep as possible either in the chamber or elsewhere. The group will probably get paranoid about future generations finding the gem some day and try to make it as protected as possible leading to a long debate about universal bad signs for various civilizations that might rise up. Assuming they continue to be good and don't kidnap or otherwise convince people to go with them to the cave only Bogy and Nukie can reproduce though they would produce a whole new generation of tieflings which would restart the cycle anew. If they don't breed or breed but neuter Bogy, the cycle is broken as no tielfings remain on the surface world and the drow always kill their tieflings rather than allow them to live as their slaves.

#2 - Group goes suicidal trying to fight to the death. Of course this would have no effect on the result of the tiefling gathering as the group would be lucky to take out 1 or 2%.

#3 - Jarvis attempts to tap into the unpredictable creation magics within the gem and sacrifices himself and the group in the ensuing explosion. This can break the cycle assuming that they do not find the Paladin by traveling west along the shores from Millville. If the paladin lives he trains some replacements who recover the gem and return it to the cave killing the tieflings in the name of all future generations. These new guardians would dedicate their lives and those of their descendants to guarding the gem to attone for their necessary acts of evil in killing the tieflings within the chamber. This was necessary to break the cycle by eradicating all tieflings with horns. Those tieflings without their horns are capable of producing children but only with other tieflings resulting in a new race of tieflings purified from the "calling". The descendants would grow in numbers but continue to be dedicated to guarding what becomes known as the "Tomb of the Heroes of the Crater" though no bodies are buried within. The Paladin himself refused to be buried in the chamber as he felt his name should not be associated with the group's ultimate sacrifice to save the world.

DM NOTES:

Bogy is capable of resisting the "calling" because his maternal grandfather had shaved his horns off resulting in his descendants being capable of resisting.

Bogy's mother was charmed by Kal Thundergad who sought out bands of tieflings who had become "blighted" in that they were capable of resisting the call. Such tieflings were to be sacrificed as part of the ritual to call "him" back to the world.

The paladin survived after being rescued by the old hermit ranger the group encountered at his cabin when they fled and got their caribou hide blankets. The man was an early trainee who had flunked out. Upon reaching Millville the paladin awaited the group for a number of weeks expecting their arrival. When they did not arrive he contacted the Warlock to begin searching them out. Meanwhile the Paladin started his trek around the mountains with a band of young men who he thought could become new heroes in the shape of paladins. They would march their way to the great quarry if it killed them.
