The Priors
From Legion of Geeks Wiki
Campaign Background
The year is (476+###) and Rome has long since fallen and the Eastern Roman Empire is also crumbling. The church still actively attempts to convert "barbarian" regions to Christianity and Islam is spreading on the Arabian peninsula. The group has been raised Catholic their entire lives and is well aware of Catholic beliefs regarding paganism (specifically witchcraft).
The group begins in a small town where strange things are happening and there are rumors of "witches" in the surrounding lands. The local bishop is organizing militias with divine blessing to carry out a mission to go find and kill the witches that have been attacking the town. The group doesn't know it yet but they are about to start a career hunting down pagans, learning what they can of them, documenting them, killing them (where necessary), and collecting various artifacts from ages past so that they do not fall into (or remain in) the wrong hands.
Character Building
All classes are allowed though being primarily an arcane or primal casting class is going to be quite difficult. If you want to go that route it might be easier for you to just take something else and multi-class into your desired class so that you can avoid possible problems in public should you encounter a battle in such a situation (you know my campaigns, HIGHLY likely to happen).
Races are allowed on a case-by-case basis. These are more to be treated as cultural backgrounds than actual races. They will all appear human though they may be slightly different from your average person in height, weight, or other minor cosmetics. You must provide information on your culture should you choose to go the non-human route.
Character Backgrounds (as defined in the books) are allowed choose a benefit that fits your character (not just for mechanics!)
Weapons and Armor are all pretty much allowable though for magical effects on your items you'll need some sort of mundane explanation or you can't take it (if its a visible magical effect). Obviously no teleporting stuff as that is just too overt.
The campaign would be MUCH assisted if one or more (preferably more) took divine classes in the service of the church. Its not required but would definitely make things easier on everybody as a whole.
Important Notes!
This is VERY important to read. The following things could mean slow agonizing deaths for your characters:
- Read your Ten Commandments and remember them for your characters!
- Pope trumps King, King trumps Arch-bishop, Arch-bishop trumps bishop, Baron trumps Bishop, Nobles trump everybody not in the church.
- Overt displays of magic in public. If you are to use magic (divine, arcane, primal, etc) you should not do so openly in public. You could be charged as a witch.
